Can’t beat your first love

It’s February, all the ads on the bus shelters are letting you know that Valentine’s day is coming up, so what better theme to choose to write on than love? What does love have to do with translation and editing scientific content? There are two possible answers to this question: nothing or everything. For me, it’s definitely the latter.

I love what I do, I love that I can help people to get more out of their results, that I can help researchers publish more rapidly and take more pleasure in the process, and of course I love that I am constantly learning, keeping up with the latest in science. Even though all science is equally important and interesting, when you love a subject it changes things.

Your first love is always going to be different. My first love in science was immunology, it was the topic of my PhD and my post-doc. Receptor stimulation, signalling cascades, cellular differentiation, antibodies, gene rearrangements – I love it all!

As it so happens, the first paper that landed on my desk in February was an immunology paper. I’m all loved-up!
